Sustainability at MOGO isn't a marketing position. It is a set of practical decisions we make every day, about the materials we use, how we manufacture, how we handle products at end of life, and how we run our business. We supply licensing products to over 100 local authorities. That scale comes with real environmental responsibility, and we take it seriously.

How does MOGO choose its materials?

At MOGO, there are three factors that influence our choice of materials:

How long the product needs to last (because a plate that survives a full licence period is better for everyone than one replaced twice)
The emissions involved in producing the material
Whether the material can be recovered at the end of life, not just in theory, but through recycling routes that actually work

That's why our external plates use polycarbonate and our internal products use recycled PVC. Both sit in established, high-recovery infrastructure. Recovered material is reinvested back into manufacture, and we're working with our suppliers to increase the proportion of recycled content over time.

How does MOGO manufacture sustainably?

The materials are only half the picture. How a product is made matters too.

For vinyl signage and rear door window flashes we print on HP Latex large-format machines. The inks are water-based, free from hazardous air pollutants and solvents, and independently certified to UL ECOLOGO and GREENGUARD Gold. That means lower emissions during production and better conditions for the people doing the printing.

Our external licence plate substrate uses heat-cured eco-friendly inks. We don't use solvent-based alternatives. All paper across our operations is FSC and EU Ecolabel certified, responsibly sourced and independently verified.

None of this is visible in the finished product, which is rather the point. It's the part of the process nobody sees, and it's where a lot of the environmental cost usually sits.

Our facilities

Our head office production facility in Aldershot holds an Energy Efficiency Rating of B and takes part in the Lloyds Green Building Programme.

We've invested in solar panels, LED lighting with motion sensors throughout, electric warehouse vehicles and energy-saving IT infrastructure. Gas and electricity consumption is actively monitored against reduction targets.

Two of our sites also have on-site allotments where staff grow whatever they like. Some people use it to switch off during a break, some take produce home.

Our Fleet

Wherever it's practical, our delivery and collection fleet runs on electric vehicles. Where EV isn't yet workable, we use Euro 6 compliant vehicles, the most stringent emissions standard for combustion engines in the UK.

That includes recycling collections, so the benefit of recovering a product isn't undone by how we come and get it.

How we measure it

Our Group Audit Director leads our Sustainability Programme and holds a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Environmental Sustainability.

A cross-group team meets monthly to review supply chains, materials, production and facilities. We monitor Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, including direct operations, energy use and supply-chain activity, which is where most of a manufacturer’s footprint lies.

Here at MOGO, our sustainability work doesn’t stop at our own four walls. We have partnered with Ecologi to plant a tree for every order placed.

What's next?

Sustainability here is a long-term piece of work, and there's plenty still to do.

We're working with our suppliers to increase the proportion of recycled content in our products, and reviewing materials as better options become available. On site, the focus stays on cutting energy use and generating more of our own. Every material choice gets looked at again as recycling infrastructure improves, because what wasn't recoverable five years ago sometimes is now.

We'd rather make steady, measurable progress than announce a target we can't stand behind.

During the rollout of the new North Yorkshire Council in 2023, it was considered a priority that taxis should display licence plates with the new Council’s logo on from day one. Without MOGO’s collaboration, we would have faced challenges in producing and distributing approximately 1600 vehicle plates and additional signage in time to meet this deadline.
